Peter Regan joined the business 47 years ago, working alongside his dad as the company established itself as a trusted local security provider. Peter’s mum also played an important role behind the scenes in the early days, helping to build the foundations of a business based on care, reliability and pride in doing things properly.

Over time, Sonic grew steadily across South Wales, protecting homes, businesses and some of Cardiff’s most recognisable buildings. Despite that growth, it remained firmly rooted in Penarth, with long-serving staff and strong customer relationships at its heart.

As Peter and his wife Christine looked ahead, they were clear that the future of the business mattered just as much as its past. While a traditional trade sale was an option, it risked moving decision-making away from Penarth and changing the character of the company. Employee ownership offered a different route – one that keeps Sonic independent, protects jobs locally, and allows the business to grow without losing its identity.
